AOTL Georgia Calls For Transparency Ahead of First Redistricting Joint Meeting

Public input hearings should be made available to understand the needs of diverse communities and ensure a transparent process

This week, the Senate Reapportionment and Redistricting and House Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Committees are scheduled to have their first joint meeting to kick off the once-a- decade redistricting process in the state. Ahead of the first joint meeting, All On The Line is calling for increased transparency and public input given the abrupt nature of this convening.

“It’s extremely concerning that the first redistricting joint meeting was announced with such short notice and with no public input. Georgians must start preparing now to fight to secure true representation for their communities. That’s why it’s critical now more than ever that the joint redistricting committees share full details on all of their upcoming joint meetings to ensure a transparent and accessible process where the public is involved,” said Theron Johnson, Georgia All On The Line State Director.

“As recent election results have shown, Georgia is an evenly divided state and it’s time for a fair map that gives voters an opportunity to elect a congressional delegation that includes seven Democrats and seven Republicans. AOTL will continue to fight to ensure that there is a fair process that results in maps where both parties must compete to win the support of Georgia voters at the ballot box,” continued Johnson.
