AOTL: Georgia’s New Maps Must Be Fair
& Free From Gerrymandering

Georgia’s Number of Congressional Seats Will
Remain Unchanged During Redistricting

Today, the Census Bureau released apportionment data based on the 2020 census count that determines the number of seats each state in the country has in the United States House of Representatives. Based on this new data, Georgia will retain its 14 Congressional seats.

“Now that the Census Bureau has unofficially kicked off the redistricting process by releasing these reapportionment numbers, the next battle to protect and strengthen our democracy is underway. Given that the redistricting process is still controlled by the conservative-majority legislature, All On The Line (AOTL) is deeply concerned that they will try to unfairly gerrymander themselves into power for the next decade. If the recent anti-voter legislation is a preview of what is to come during the redistricting process, Georgians need to start preparing now to fight to secure true representation for their communities. This means fighting for a fair map that would reflect the competitive nature of the state,” said Theron Johnson, All On The Line Georgia State Director.

“As recent election results have shown, Georgia is an evenly divided state and it’s time for a fair map that gives voters an opportunity to elect a delegation that includes seven Democrats and seven Republicans. AOTL will do everything in our power to ensure that there is a fair and transparent process that results in maps where both parties must compete to win the support of Georgia voters at the ballot box,” continued Johnson.
