AOTL: New Texas Congressional Districts Should Be
Drawn in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth Areas

A Fair Map in Texas Allows for Competition and Fair Representation

Today, the Census Bureau released apportionment data based on the 2020 census count that determines the number of seats each state in the country has in the United States House of Representatives. Based on this new data, Texas will now have 38 congressional members, an increase of two seats over the past decade. The people of Texas deserve a map that gives them an opportunity to elect members of Congress that fairly represent voters in every corner of the state.

“All On The Line strongly believes that Texas’ new congressional districts should be located in or around Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth due to the area’s rapid population growth,” said Genevieve Van Cleve, Texas All On The Line State Director. “Politicians in Texas should stop protecting themselves and draw a map that gives power back to the people. That means drawing a map that creates districts that reflect the political make-up of the state and gives voters the opportunity to elect their representatives of choice.”

“For the better part of the last decade, self-serving politicians in the legislature have forced constituents in the Lone Star State to vote in some of the most gerrymandered districts in the country, packing and cracking to protect their interests. Unfortunately, the legislature’s current push to put up new barriers for voters is probably a preview of how they will act during the process. All On The Line will do everything in our power to work with our partners in the state to ensure that there is a fair and transparent process that results in a map where both parties have to compete to win the support of the voters,” continued Van Cleve.
